At League, we believe in creating styles that not only look good, they do good. This is why we make many of our own products at our company-owned, social conscious facility League Central America (LCA), located in El Salvador.
Today we’d like to introduce you to one of our LCA team members, Crisstian Montes! He joined the production team at LCA three years ago after believing he wouldn’t be able to work because of being in a wheelchair. “A few years ago I had an accident which caused me an injury,” he said. “At the beginning, it was very difficult to accept it, because I could not find a job that I could do.” It wasn’t just his injury, however, that was holding him back — it was also a lack of education. “It’s also because I don’t have a competent academic level,” he stated.
Luckily, he heard about LCA. “I met new friends who worked at a company called League,” he said. “They spoke very well about League and how League had many many benefits for a person with a disability. There was no discrimination.” It wasn’t long before he got the call. “They called me and gave me this opportunity. Ever since that moment, I have been working for League.”
Thanks to the educational programs at LCA, he’s addressing his education as well. “When I started working, I realized that they also offer opportunities to study, from first grade up to university,” he said. “I entered 5th grade, now I’m finished with seventh grade and going into 8th grade.” But he’s got loftier goals as well. “My goal is to finish enough school so I can go to the university program at LCA. I plan to study to be an accountant so I can have an accounting career.”
We can’t wait to see what Crisstian does next! “Now my whole life has changed, I feel better than before. I feel more positive, and I only think of positive things,” he told us. We are so glad you’re part of LCA and the League family, Crisstian!
League strives to create styles that go beyond looking good: they do good, and help make our employees lives better. We are committed to making a difference. There are 500 employees at our ethically-run, company owned factory in El Salvador where treating workers with dignity and respect is at the core of what we do. We’d like to introduce you to Karla Campos, one of our team members at League Central America.
Karla joined League in 2012. “I had only ever completed my first year of high school before I started working as a sewing operator at many different factories. I couldn’t imagine continuing my career only as an operator and I always had hopes and goals of finding better work.”
She’s been happy working for LCA. “Coming to League was the best thing that could have ever happened in my life.” She was thrilled to be able to take advantage of League’s education programs. “They offered me a new opportunity of work and provided me the opportunity to finish my high school degree. No other factory in El Salvador provides opportunities like this.”
She is inspired by her family. “I am a single mother of 3 children, ages 7, 14, and 15. They incentivize me to continue pushing forward and show them that there are always opportunities in life and God will guide them.”
Karla has become quite the inspiration herself. “I am finishing my second year in my University technical degree in Biomedical Engineering. Now that I am studying and completing my degree, I think that everyone can do the same!”
We love having Karla on our team, and can’t wait to see what she does next!
League creates styles that go beyond looking good: they do good, and help make our employees lives better. We are committed to making a difference.
Today we introduce to you Romeo Hernandez, a chef at our League Central America facility. Romeo started with LCA in 2010. “I have been working for League for 7 years. I started after living in the US for 12 years.”
When he returned to El Salvador, he was worried about landing a job. “I started interviewing for different jobs,” he said. “But since I was only educated up to seventh grade, it was very difficult to find work.” Luckily, he reached out to LCA. “I received a call from League saying they wanted to interview me for an open position in the cafeteria. I went in for my interview and I was thrilled to hear about all the opportunities that League employees have, like access to education.”
Romeo didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the education. “Fast forward to today, and I am finishing my high school degree and will begin studying in university next year. I am so happy to be in a place that offers so much to their employees, because outside of League, those opportunities are very difficult to find.”
Romeo also had an unexpected benefit of working at League — he met his wife there! “League has changed my life in so many ways. Not only have I furthered my education, I also met my wife who works at League and we now have a son, a safe place to live, and we have a future full of hope and opportunities.”
Of course we’re thrilled to have Romeo on the LCA team, but he’s grateful to League too. “This is all thanks to League. This is the new El Salvador for me, and anyone who wants to excel.”
